Hi everyone, my name is Sofia, I am a new member of weall. I am from Portugal.
I have just read that SoftBank is investing a lot of money in France for AI data centres. I am personally very worried about this. AI seems to me like a complete waste of resources and energy, the epitome of the society we have built in “the west”, completely disconnected from reality and nature.
I was wondering what people think about this? And if you have any ideas on how we can stop these sorts of projects? Why is Europe trying to enter this “AI race”, which leads to nowhere good?

A warm welcome to this space, Sofia! And yes - I share your concerns around AI and that innovation is not necessarily the same as progress even though the two are often used interchangeably. Hope to see you around as part of our members’ calls!
