As commented on a previous post calls, this September 15-21 Draw the Line mobilizations will take place across the world. We are sharing a spreadsheet map with the different planned activities for your information and if you are interested in connecting with different activities you are encouraged to do so through the contact organizations.
This map is still being populated, but you will see there are a number of actions being planned in different geographies where there are WEAll members. For example in Australia and New Zealand actions are being led by Pacific Islanders Climate in Melbourne and Wellington (on the 21st); there will be a mass March in New York on the 21st under the banner of Make Billionaires Pay. There are a lot of actions across 35 countries in Africa, with a march in Johannesburg being organized by 350.org, Climate Justice Coalition, Greenpeace Africa (on the 18th). In the UK a march is also planned by the “Make them Pay” Coalition (on the 20th). Rallies are planned in Toronto and Vancouver being organized by 350.org and CAN (on the 20th).
The main organizers are Climate Action Network and their member organizations as well as 350.org, Action Aid, Oxfam, Africans Rising, and APMDD (Asian People´s Movement on Debt and Development). This aims to be a “Big Tent” moment where different movements can come together under a range of demands, at a time when unifying actions are needed both to stop further harm from being done, but especially in terms of pushing for economic systems change to address the different demands.
Together with Earth4All, WEAll is organizing an on-line event on the 16th in support of Draw the Line. You can register here. This will look at the big picture behind the different demands of Draw the Line, linking to the need for economic systems change and a just transition, to prioritise rights, jobs, justice, democracy, and a fulfilling life on a safe planet.
Social media posts are now out promoting the event and please feel free to repost and share with your networks:
