How I imagine a Wellbeing Economy – my thoughts:
Instead of unnecessary work like producing short-lived clothing and other unnecessary jobs, we could:
Create plantings with trees and small plants, where green climbing plants are smartly integrated along the branches and trunks of the trees from bottom to top, so that photosynthesis takes place everywhere the tree itself doesn’t produce it.
A planting like this would have a higher leaf area index and more CO₂ uptake per area, and therefore higher yield.
Climbing plants on houses and with ropes across streets.
Phosphate is returned to the field.
Infertile soil is made fertile.
Soil sealing is stopped because nothing grows on sealed surfaces.
We would have more time to ride bikes or recumbent bikes and become less dependent on fossil fuels and lithium.
And much more.
My thoughts
If the economy doesn’t grow, it shrinks and shrinks.
You could do it so that the economy grows and shrinks in cycles. For example, the factories… they could just remain standing for the next growth phase, stay idle most of the time, and then slowly go back into operation. Check out that video.
Second reason why, to my knowledge, we have a growth compulsion:
If the economy doesn’t grow, the average citizen ends up with less and less. Yeah, where does the money go? To the super-rich.
That’s why we have to grow, so that even though the super-rich take something from us, we still have enough.
The rich would have to be taxed more and maybe we should gradually reduce interest rates and the use of stocks by the rich.
