Hello, this is a message from Anne Haldin:
DO YOU DARE TO TAKE A STAND AND SIGN UP FOR YOUR FIRST CITIZEN’S INITIATIVE IN THE EU?
So great that there is also a citizens’ initiative in the EU that wants the super-rich to also have to pay taxes. Just like what they in Africa intend to bring to COP29 in November.
Now we start building networks and pulling in the same direction! Yiiiihaaa
According to We Move Europe, Europe loses almost 300 billion euros every year because the richest do not pay taxes. That’s 33 million an hour that could be used to finance schools, transport and care. In addition, these actors contribute a lot to the climate crisis. A functioning tax system within the EU is needed.
ONE MILLION SIGNATURES?
Right now, the EU citizens’ initiative Tax the Rich, which started last autumn, has received 255,352 signatures. It is far from a million signatures, and in order for Sweden to help and become among the seven countries that achieve the “minimum number of signatures” (based on the number of MEPs we have), we must collect at least 14,805 signatures. Isn’t it a good joint challenge to inform several people about this?
Because why should the super rich avoid paying taxes??? Are they also the ones who travel and pollute the most?
MORE INFO
Here you can see which citizens’ initiatives there are right now in the EU that you can sign up for.

In the same place, you can choose and read in detail what the “Tax the rich” initiative wants to change and how many signatures it currently has.
The initiative also has its own website where you can see who started this citizens’ initiative. https://www.tax-the-rich.eu/
Tax the Rich deadline is 09/10/2024. Today, the initiative has 255,352 signatures.
Brief about the EU citizens’ initiative below (or follow the link and read the details)
A European citizens’ initiative is a way for you and others in the EU to actively contribute to EU policy.
If you want the EU to act on a certain issue, you can propose a citizens’ initiative to call on the European Commission to produce new legislation.
In order for the Commission to take a position on your initiative, you must get one million signatures from all over the EU.
Before you start your initiative, you need to form a group of organizers.
The group must consist of at least seven EU citizens who live in at least seven different EU countries and who have reached voting age for European Parliament elections in their country. However, they do not have to be citizens of seven different EU countries.
The initiative must collect at least one million valid signatures from at least seven EU countries (of which the seven countries must achieve a minimum number of signatures per country).
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
If the initiative meets all the conditions, it will be investigated by the Commission. Then the following happens:
- Within a month, those who started the initiative can meet representatives of the EU.
- Within three months, those who started the initiative may present their initiative at a public hearing in the European Parliament.
- Within six months, those who started the initiative may receive a formal response in which the commission explains whether it will present a bill based on the initiative and why.
