If you’re participating in movements for social and economic change, how are you developing your leadership capacity? Your abilities to see adjacent possibilities and alternative perspectives? Your empathetic ways of knowing and compassion for those who seem on the opposite side of the political spectrum?
In my experience, one of the most potent ways of diving into these questions is with others in a collective journey of inquiry. In other words, on a well crafted, well facilitated course. I think these kinds of questions pursued with fellow travelers is how we build our movements. This is why I’m so enthusiastic about Schumacher Action Labs (Schumacher Action Labs | LinkedIn) and this short course coming up next month. We ran a similar course last year and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had teaching and learning together with wonderful, curious, and caring people. This year will be the same.
We’ll be working with ideas like commoning, bioregionalism, social sculpture, engaged art practice, engaged Buddhism, pluralism, and calling upon thinkers like Joanna Macy, Gary Snyder, David Bollier, JK Gibson Graham, and others - all with a view toward equipping each of us with the capacities do what we do with confidence, compassion, kindness, and depth.
