Upcoming 20 MAY: How to reach more people; do we want another world?

“I want to do something! We must turn the tide!” Are these statements you could make? WEALL organizes this global meeting for all members who are eager to contribute, wherever you are and whatever possibilities you have.

WEALL have great ideas to make world economy well-being for all, but we face world media and politicians who don’t see it or ignore it. All over the world people protest for the climate, but how can this be improved without an economical change? Is there a way to combine both approaches?

The meeting starts with an introduction about the project WeWantAnotherWorld, a chance to unite people with two main goals: global digital protest against “the system” (the prevailing destructive economical world order) and highlighting all the promising alternatives. We hope to get a discussion going about how we can get more attention for our ideas. Is wewantanotherworld.nu a useful tool? Is it possible to start a global online demonstration?

Join our inspiring discussion!

This is a members meeting organised by WeWantAnotherWorld!

Thank you to all who joined this Member Spotlight session with Michiel van Lint of We Want Another World last week!

Summarizing this meeting about how to get more attention in the world for (our) ideas about economic change towards wellbeing economical thinking.

The climate is an example of an issue that has come into the political agenda of many countries although without the element that without change of economic thinking climate change has not much chance. We want a similar entry into world media and political agenda for economic change.

The conclusion of this meeting was that although there are already many good initiatives, it might help a lot to start a separate project that can be more pro-active, provocative and consequently in delivering the message that the problems and unhappiness many people experience can and should be related to the economic system in combination with communicating the well-examined alternatives.

Organising member Michiel van Lint started the website wewantanotherworld.nu as a starting point and has the ambition to start social media accounts, but can not do this on his own.

Everybody who supports this idea and maybe could contribute, please get in touch via contact@wewantanotherworld.nu!

I add that I am disappointed that no one has got in touch yet. It makes me suck: is all we all can do just talk?

Oh don’t be disheartened, Michiel; give it some time. I will share a reminder in the newsletter too. People are busy, lots of the people who were on the call I know are very active working on their own projects too, so be patient :folded_hands:t5: :white_heart:

Hi – I missed the live discussion but this is a topic I’ve been prioritising lately: how do we retain long-distance-digital communications without relying on tech giants and making things worse?

I attended a discussion about this in Montreal last month where we discussed alternatives like the Fediverse, Bluesky, Telegram, Signal, UpScrolled and even mesh networks. Mesh networks sound really fun for local communication, but personally, I know people in many parts of the world and would like to be able to retain contact no matter where in the world I happen to be.

Creating a server for your website seems to be fairly easy with a Raspberry Pi and there’s a lot of exciting possibilities. I think the biggest barrier that I see now is consensus on what platforms to switch to together. Someone also suggested turning social media into a public service that we can have a say in, which I love! This is what happened with television.

I also notice challenges with national mail services. It seems to me to parallel the underfunding of public health which pushes people into private healthcare, which further erodes public healthcare. The more we rely on privatised companies for goods and services, the more these companies can exploit us.

Personally, I like the idea of changing systems in the direction of community-shared resources. If social media was a public service, we could remove advertising content and ban algorithms that don’t serve the public good.

I didn’t see any links to social media from your website – what platforms are you on?

Curious to hear about other people’s use of social media and digital communications habits. Are folks getting off Meta and Google? What’s the favourite alternative? :eyes:

Hello! Thanks for sharing this, I really value this work! I know there are a lot of European alternatives to all apps, but consensus on what platforms to switch to together is the problem. Well, consensus in general. So I ask you what I ask anyone: why do we all do our thing without supporting other’s? If you want consensus, please look at wewantanotherworld.nu, check out “Why” and let me know if you agree (use the emailaddress on the site!). My dream is to unite all people who want change!
